The 2026 World Cup marks a new era with 48 teams, 104 matches and a revamped knockout format.

The 2026 World Cup will be historic as it expands the competition from 32 to 48 teams. This change brings a new format that promises more excitement and competitiveness.

The 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups of 4 teams each. The top two from each group, along with the 8 best third-placed teams, will advance to a 32-team knockout stage.

The tournament will feature 104 matches in total, played across 16 venues in the United States (11), Mexico (3) and Canada (2). The group stage will run from June 11 to 28, while the final will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
